Learning at Home
Welcome to the Learning at Home section of Baltimore City Public Schools’ Parent Portal. As you know, our children don’t just learn in school, but everywhere they go, from everyone they meet. And family members, in particular—parents, siblings, grandparents, and other relatives our kids engage with on a daily or regular basis—are among their most important teachers. We often don’t think of parenting and care-giving as teaching, but our children learn from us in more ways than we know. And something as simple as helping them with their homework and asking questions about their day—about what they learned and which class they liked most—can go a long way to ensuring their success in school.
Learning at Home is designed to help you, our students’ families, know what your children are learning in school and how you can support and continue that learning at home.
In these Learning at Home pages, you will find:
- What Your Child is Learning: a curriculum overview for every grade, kindergarten through high school. Choose your child's grade from the menu on the left hand side of this page.
- How You Can Help: a guide with tips and activities to help your child with specific items in the curriculum for their grade. Look for the How You Can help icon on the curriculum pages for your child’s grade.
- Learning at Home Toolkit: a range of resources recommended by City Schools’ curriculum experts that you can use to support your child’s learning and spark their curiosity—and yours—at home.
- Link to the City Schools Parent Portal: a direct line into your child’s classroom that allows you to stay informed about the courses your child is enrolled in, as well as upcoming assignments, activities and projects:
Use these links and resources to keep your child’s skills sharp throughout the summer, to learn what your child will be learning in 2009-10 and get a jump on the next year and, most importantly, to become your child’s partner in academic success.
